Manney's Men Selections for 2019 Can-Am Showcase
Featured are the players that stood out to Brett Manney during the 2019 Can-Am Showcase
The name of the event – The Can-Am Showcase – reflects the event's inclusion of elite players from both the United States and Canada, particularly the lacrosse hotbed of Southern Ontario. In its 9th year, all players will be divided into teams, each coached by a college coach, and will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of the college recruiters in attendance. This event is open to any and all participants in the corresponding graduation years.
We have three evaluators watching every game. The evaluators are simply given a list of players and numbers and are not given any information about where a player is from or who they play for. The evaluators are not stat-counting, but rather grading the players on the skills and attributes needed to be a successful college lacrosse player. At the end of the morning session, we run all the numeric grades through our program to choose the participants for the Select Game.
Teams are guaranteed 3 games. Games will be 55-minutes long, consisting of 25-minute running halves and a 2-minute half-time. All games are officiated by top certified officials under NCAA rules. A Select Game evaluator is present as a Field Coordinator at each field, ensuring fair assessment for each participant.
Showcase Lacrosse provides an educational component at every event. The Showcase includes an informational session led by a coach on the college recruiting process and the demands of being a college lacrosse player. All individual teams will be coached by a college coach.
I. Our Process
This event is open to any and all participants in the corresponding graduation years. The pride of Showcase Lacrosse is our process. We collect both an Application as well as a Nomination from the athlete's high school or club coach. This allows us to learn about the player through their highlight film, in addition to gauging their abilities from the perspective of a coach. We then review all Application/Nominations and send emails with instructions to register. If the selections from the prior round of the Draft do not register before the dates below, their spot will no longer be guaranteed. This is a first come, first-serve basis registration.
II. Invitation Dates
Invitations will be sent out on a bi-monthly basis according to the following schedule:
Round 1: April 25, 2020 / Round 2: May 30, 2020 / Round 3: June 27, 2020 / Round 4: July 25, 2020
In 2019, the Can-Am Showcase attracted 70 college coaches who populated the sidelines and gave players the opportunity to compete against some of the `nation's top talent.
