INTRO PROGRAMS

Spark Field Hockey is NXT's ultimate intro Field Hockey program for 4-8 year olds!

ABOUT INTRO 

Spark teaches the basic skills of the sport in a fun, energizing and engaging environment. Our four-week program focuses on building confidence, having success and learning the basic skills of the sport. Our lessons are supplemented with activities and games to reinforce skills!

Spark Field Hockey Training in the Fall, Winter & Spring seasons are 1 hour sessions that take place over 4 weeks.

Spark Field Hockey Camps run each Summer and are half day camps from 9 AM - 12 PM, Monday through Thursday.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Spark is perfect for girls ages 4-8 who have never played field hockey and want to have a positive first experience.  Our age-appropriate curriculum is designed to break down basic field hockey skills in a simple, fun way.

Spark is also a great training program for players who are new to the game and want to continue to develop.

We break into groups by age & skill level to make sure all players are challenged.  

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Grip & Dribbling

Players will learn to hold the stick properly as well as learn a loose and tight dribble. Games such as Steal the Bacon and Red Light, Green Light will be played.

Passing & Shooting

Players will learn how to push pass and shoot on cage for accuracy. Games such as Spot Shooting, Clean Your Room, and Treasure Island will be played.

Defense & Dodges

Players will learn defensive footwork and the forehand spin. Games such as an obstacle course and small-sided scrimmages will be played.

Skills at Speed

Players will compete in relay races with stick and ball to encourage playing at game speed. They will also play a competitive game of Sharks and Minnows. Players will compete in small-sided scrimmages.

Team Play

Players will work on give and go's as well as other passing patterns. The concept of a 2v1 will be introduced. Players will compete in small-sided scrimmages against each another.

Review & Scrimmaging

Players will review all of the skills learned and participate in small-sided scrimmages against each other.

• Shin guards
• Mouth guard
• Water bottle
• Field hockey stick

Don't have a stick, but still want to give it a go? No problem! We have beginner field hockey sticks for anyone to use at each session.

COACHES

Our coaches know the game and bring the energy! 

They have experience playing in college, coaching high school, coaching at the collegiate level as well as having backgrounds as teachers and educators. All of our Spark Field Hockey coaches are PA 153 certified compliant and backgroun checked.  

Spark coaches are warm and welcome players to be part of a group. They lay the foundation for showing a child how she can combine a competitive spirit with good sportsmanship.

FAQ

Does my child need their own field hockey stick?
• We provide beginner sticks for players to use each session.

I saw that equipment is provided, but can child use their own stick?
• Absolutely.

What happens if there’s bad weather? 
• We will notify families via email if there is a scheduling change due to weather.  Most likely we will add an hour to one of the remaining sessions or extend the program a week.

Can my child and their friend be paired together?
• Yes, there is a spot to input friend requests during registration to our programs.

 

If my child really, really doesn’t like it after the first week can we get a refund?
• Yes, we can work with you in the event the session doesn’t go as planned.

My child is 8 and has some field hockey experience, should I sign them up for Spark or NXT Field Hockey? 
• We’re happy to have a conversation in order to find the best fit for your daughter.  Most likely, your child would be a good fit for our NXT Field Hockey fundamental training. Feel free to contact our Director to talk through skill level and placement.
