35 College coaches attend Girls Philly Showcase Weekend
From the Saturday Girls Philly Showcase to the Sunday Girls Philly Invitational, NXT hosted 35 Division I, II, and III coaches across only ten fields at United Sports in Downingtown, PA. With the high-volume of coaches and limited number of fields, the players throughout the entire weekend experienced maximum exposure.
Included in the coaching line-up was the All-American and lacrosse Hall of Famer Gary Gait, who headlined the Saturday recruiting talk. Gait is the current head coach at Syracuse University and 10-time NCAA champion, three as player and seven as assistant coach at University of Maryland. Gait's speech explained the new recruiting rules and the importance of contacting coaches, even if they are not able to respond.
Following Gait, Vassar College's head coach Judy Finerghty advised the players to focus on "finding the right fit," both athletically and academically. With the NCAA new rules in place, coaches encourage players to email with short, to the point messages that show interest in the school. This was the overall theme of the recruiting talk.
With over 140 individual players participating in the Saturday Showcase and 70 teams competing at the Sunday team event, the college coaches had plenty of talent to evaluate. Some of the top programs in the country were on the sidelines on Sunday including University of North Carolina, Stanford University, Ohio State University, Penn State University, Towson University, and Cornell University.
