Manney's Men 2021 Selections for 2018 Boys Philly Showcase

Top high school players competed this past Saturday at United Sports in Downingtown, PA. Find out who Brett Manney selected as the top 2021 players of the day

The Boys Philly Showcase attracts elite talent and college coaches from across the country to one of the top venues on the east coast, United Sports in Downingtown, PA. The 10-Year Anniversary of the Boys Philly Showcase attracted over 600 athletes and 180 college coaches from the Division l, ll, and lll levels. Players traveled from 27 states and Canada to compete at this one-day event.

The Showcase featured athletes from 2020, 2021 and 2022 graduation years. Players competed throughout the day to be selected for the Fab 40 All-Star team. All-Star recipients received a Nike gear pack with bag, hat, t-shirt, and jacket and an Epoch gear pack with a shaft, early released Z-One strung head, sideline bag, and Integra gloves. Prior to the start of the All-Star games, an impressive face-off battle, King of the X, took place on field one. Face-off players, surrounded by college coaches under the lights, battled for the elusive title which was captured by 2021 FO Richie Hughson from Kennett/Freedom.

The Fab 40 All-Star games from all three graduation years were filmed by NLV Productions and will air on Lax Sports Network this week. Follow our social media channels for updates on times.

Featured below are four of the top 2021 lacrosse players that Brett Manney has highlighted as Manney's Men for this year's showcase.

Brett Manney is an assistant captain and standout defenseman for the New England Black Wolves. He also won a bronze medal with USA's National Indoor Team, where he was also an assistant captain. He played on Delaware's 2007 Final Four team, captained the 2008 team, made the North-South All-Star Game and is the driving force behind Showcase Lacrosse's nationally-known events. Manney sees players from all over the country at NXT's events, including those in Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. He also coaches the NXT 2019 team, which allows him to see many of the country's elite players. Here are the players who stood out the most to him at the Philly Summer Showcase.

Boys Philly Showcase 2018

Pierce Gregory,  Dover Sherborn (MA), 3d NE

I have always been a fan of Gregory’s and have discussed his game before at our events. A catalyst for the 3d NE team, Pierce has an array of moves and vision which makes him a threat every time he has the ball. I love his tenacity and aggression when he attacks the cage. The most dangerous part of his game is that he can bury the ball with both his left and right hand, making him unguardable at times. The future is very bright for this young attackman.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Colin Zyck, Saucon Valley (PA), NXT
  • Thomas Mencke, Highland Park (TX), Texas Mustangs
  • Liam Hurley, Jamestown (VA), Richmond Hawks
  • Archie McEvoy, Cape Elizabeth (ME), NH Tomahawks

Elijah Cohen, Taft (CT), Eclipse

Cohen was a total beast this past weekend. It didn't take defenses long to realize they need to pole the 6’4" midfielder when he had the ball. Yet, Cohen's confidence to dodge against a pole is what I admire about his game. In the one game I was watching, Cohen was running by LSMs who are arguably some of the best in their respective states with ease. He uses a strong overhand shot to his advantage and is a monster when dodging downhill and in transition. Cohen put in a tremendous stat line at the Showcase and emerged as a star.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Jake Moran, Glenbrook South (IL), Str8lax
  • Malcolm Steegstra, Pingree (MA), Clams
  • Corbin Minard, (FO),  Delbarton (NJ), Patriot
  • Tommy Batson, Haddonfield (NJ), TriState

Remington Reynolds, Coppell (TX), Iron Horse

Remington had a day not only showcasing his skills, but bailing out his teammates as well. The young defenseman loves to slide and when he does, he is always disrupting plays. Reynolds is very fundamental when he approaches the ball carrier as he throws timely pokes and checks to be a nuisance on the field. As a lefty, he matches up well with rightys when they are dodging. He always has the stick in their gloves, a trait which I always look for. When this Texas product had the ball in his stick, he was looking for quick offense and read the defense well to start the early offense from defense. Texas has churned out some great defensemen who have played in our events over the years and Reynolds has proven to be in the same discussion.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Julian Chero, St Augustine (NJ), SouthShore
  • Isaac Albers, Stillwater (MN), True
  • Garrett House, Obra D. Tompkins (TX), 3d Texas

Matt Nunes , Woodlands (TX), Iron Horse

Nunes is a total stud. He hails from Houston powerhouse, the Woodlands, and could be the next great goalie product out of the Lone Star state. Nunes is not only nimble but his footwork is outstanding. When you watch him you can see how light he is on his feet. Moreover, he attacks the ball from distance and in close - he does not get too anxious on inside shots. The young netminder is skilled and poised beyond his years. It was a joy to watch him shut down some very good shooters all day.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Chris Dindino, St. Augustine (NJ), South Shore
  • Ryan Skripps, Rivers (MA), Clams
